As we, collectively, work to improve our emotional health, it’s as if we are blowing away the layers of judgment, society’s expectations of us, the uncomfortable feelings. Releasing the guilt, the anger, the frustration, we’re blowing away the clouds, to leave us with a clear and cloudless sky. 

Although, today, we might think of ‘ether’ as a nothingness, in Greek mythology, Aether was the God of a clear sky.

No matter what kind of weather passes across it, the sky is still the sky. Just as who we are remains the same, despite the emotions we feel. 

We should feel comforted in the fact that our emotions will eventually float on by. Just like storm clouds. 

Everything you find inside Aether — practices for greater self-awareness, gentle yoga, guided breathwork sessions, soundscapes and mindfulness exercises — will support your emotional wellbeing. This is a space for you to let the weather pass. Helping you to return to feeling that clear blue sky, once again.

Just remember, the sunny days aren’t half glorious without experiencing the occasional downpour.

You CAN achieve your potential by accepting the uncomfortableness. Instead of trying to avoid it.

Although the darkness can seem a dangerous place, it can’t be avoided in a twenty-four hour cycle on earth.

In Greek mythology, Nyx was the goddess of the dark night. She was the mother of Aether. When the other gods needed advice, she was a revered source of wisdom they would often turn to for guidance.

Her intuition and worldly insight — paired with her connection to the nighttime — proved that the dark wasn’t something to be feared, but a place of stillness, for reflection. The darkness was something to be explored, welcomed in, with a healthy curiosity. 

And so it felt quite fitting to name this platform Aether, the brainchild of Nix Brook, emotional health educator, breathwork facilitator and yoga teacher.

Aether rose up from times of disquiet

Nix lived in the darkness, struggling with depression for many years. But it was only when she bravely ventured into her darkness, that she discovered light, clarity and strength. 

At 28, the outside of her life looked perfect: newly engaged, with a successful career that let her jetset around the world, having just bought her first home… but inside she was in turmoil. 

Amidst persistent cycles of anxiety and depression, feeling unfulfilled, doing the same work, the same routine, she was not making the impact that she truly wanted to.

Yoga became her one moment a week where she was able to step away from all the pressures and expectations, and found herself able to breathe again. Where she felt her shoulders come down from her ears. It was her own refuge from the storm. 

On paper, she was exceeding expectations for her age. But the environment she was working in was thankless, greedy, narcissistic. 

Yoga showed her another way to live. She couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more

to life than collecting external achievements. But taking a step in the opposite direction brought about fear and confusion, not wanting to rock the boat ... 

Her fiance and colleagues started sounding like a broken record: “Nix, why are you always dreaming of another life?”

Belittled, she agreed with them that she was probably overreacting. She stayed quiet. And just keep trudging on.

Nix realised that — whilst working with some of the richest people in the world, who often didn't seem happy or fulfilled either — happiness is an inside job. 

She called off the engagement and went to work abroad for 2 years — to pause, reset and start living for herself instead of external expectations.

She returned home as a qualified yoga teacher, having trained with world renowned teachers. That’s where she found the power of the breathwork.
